Man United legends deliver a damning verdict on the team- pinpoint two weak links in the squad

Paul Scholes and Paul Ince identify two chinks in the Manchester United armour

According to the Daily Star, Manchester United legends Paul Scholes and Paul Ince believe the club have an Achilles heel in the form of their full-backs.

His comments come on the back of what was a disappointing night against Sevilla in the Europa League.

Both Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Brandon Williams endured a difficult night against the Andalusian outfit. It can be argued that the duo was involved in both the goals we conceded on the night.

Brandon Williams struggled against Suso

Suso brought Sevilla level after Williams failed to mark him on a cross that came from our right. The opposite happened in the second half when Wan-Bissaka failed to deal with a cross that Williams was unable to stop. Not the way United fans hoped our fullbacks would complement each other.

Williams, in particular, endured a difficult night. The youngster, stepping in for the injured Luke Shaw, struggled against Suso.

“I think they need help, Wan-Bissaka and Williams especially down the sides.”

Wan-Bissaka has, in fact, enjoyed a promising debut season at United. Having signed from Crystal Palace last summer, the youngster has established himself as our first-choice right-back.

However, the lack of rest seems to have caught up with him. There were times when he looked dead on his feet in what could be attributed to the after-effects of a long and hard season.

While Wan-Bissaka and Shaw are fairly dependable fullbacks, United do lack decent cover for the duo. With us set to compete on multiple fronts next season, strength is depth is as important as quality.

The modern fullback plays an important role in today’s game. One only has to look at how Liverpool and Bayern Munich make use of the position to amplify their attack.

United at this moment in time lack the resources to match them. Efforts have to be made to ensure that the club is better equipped going forward. With the new season closing in, we will need to act fast.
