According to Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Express), former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo wants to link up with Red Devils target Raul Jimenez.

The Mexican ace missed a penalty as Wolves were knocked out of the Europa League against Sevilla. Juventus too endured a miserable outing as Lyon ensured their hunt for a European title goes on.

The Old Lady are in the market to boost their firepower. They seek someone who can link up well with their Portuguese superstar.

According to the report, they have their sights set on Jimenez. The Wolves star will not come cheap, with the Molineux outfit demanding £90m for the Mexican.

Jimenez has enjoyed great success since joining Wolves in 2018. Having initially made the move on a loan, he went on to sign a permanent deal last summer in what was a club-record fee.

The Mexican ace scored 27 goals this season as he led the Wolves frontline with purpose and commitment. Not just your average goalscorer, Jimenez also plays a key role in interconnecting the play. This has seen him provide 10 assists this season.

A proven talent in the Premier League, he would give Ole Gunnar Solskajer a dependable option to call upon. Bringing in Jimenez would certainly reduce the goalscoring burden on Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.

United have a close relationship with the player’s agent Jorge Mendes. This could make a potential switch more doable. Jimenez’s current contract at the Molineux runs until 2023. (h/t Express)

At 29, Jimenez remains a potent player but will not be a long-term solution to our needs upfront.

The prospect of forking out a massive fee for such a player is questionable. If it does come down to a bidding war, United will be better off letting Juventus overspend on the Mexican striker.
