It appeared to be of those nights for United as the game finished goalless at the end of 90 minutes. However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s decision to bring on Juan Mata proved to be an inspired choice.

The Spanish veteran rolled back the years and put up a performance to remember against the Danish giants. He time and again impressed with his creativity and found way past a dogged Copenhagen defence.

Mata played a key role in Anthony Martial winning the penalty and should even have scored one himself late on.

The 32-year-old’s creativity was a key spark in United stepping up their game in extra time. With us just two games away from glory, Mata could yet have a chance to write his name into United folklore.

United will next face Wolverhampton Wanderers or Sevilla FC in the semifinals.
