Manchester United closing in on a five year deal for Jadon Sancho
According to Sky Sports, Manchester United are close to agreeing on personal terms with Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho.
The 20-year-old has emerged as the club’s top summer transfer target. United are offering the winger a five year deal as negotiations with Dortmund continue at an advanced stage.
The Germans have refused to budge on their £108m asking price. However, they have agreed to accept less money upfront.
Although they want £90m upfront, the chances of them spending such a huge amount on bringing in a replacement is unlikely. This is the major reason for Dortmund softening their stance.
It is not an approach unfamiliar to the Germans. They used a similar strategy when they sold Ousmane Dembele to Barcelona in 2017. Dortmund were keen to secure €140m upfront but instead settled for €105m plus add-ons.
Reducing the amount paid up front will also see us prevent Manchester City from benefitting from the deal. The Cityzens are set to receive 15% of the transfer fee that Dortmund are paid as a part of the deal that took Sancho to the Signal Iduna Park.
Sancho is one of the best young players in world football. Despite his young age, he is already a match-winner for both club and country. His addition to the United frontline will take our attack up several notches.
The Englishman showed his prolific side with 17 goals and assists apiece in 32 Bundesliga games this season. Averaging more than a goal contribution per game, he has been central to Dortmund’s frontline.
According to the report, the Red Devils also have a plan B if they miss out on Sancho. In such a situation, they will bring in Bayern winger Kingsley Coman on loan.
