Jorge Mendes wants Manchester United to sign James Rodriguez
According to Colombian magazine Las 2 Orillas (h/t Express), superagent Jorge Mendes is keen to get Ed Woodward to sign his client James Rodriguez for Manchester United.
Doing so will be in direct violation of what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants. The Norwegian had earlier vetoed United’s pursuit of the Colombian superstar.
Rodriguez was, at one point in time, one of the best players in the world. However, over the past few years, his stock has fallen considerably. Although still good, he has failed to hit the heights expected of him.
United have in recent times aimed to bring in promising young talents. Thanks to it, the club today have a promising young squad at their disposal.
At 29, Rodriguez should be at his peak but isn’t. It would not make sense for us to bring him to the club under the current circumstances.
Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho is United’s top transfer target this summer. He will not come cheap though. The Red Devils are better off splashing the money on the 20-year-old rather than a washed-up Rodriguez.
According to the report, Solskjaer is completely against accepting the deal. It goes on to add that it is solely the work of the agent seeking a huge payday.
Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti has an interest in the 29-year-old but is yet to make an approach. The Italian was at the helm of Real Madrid when Rodriguez joined in 2014.
Rodriguez has struggled for form in recent years and was loaned out to Bayern Munich last season. The Bavarians also chose against signing the player on a permanent basis.

United have in the past relied on reputation to sign players. More often than not, it has failed to hit the required level of success.
The club is better off rejecting any chance to sign Rodriguez. He was once the brightest star in the sky but today, the glow is far too thin to be of any use, at least at United.
Woodward should pay heed to what his manager wants, not an agent.
