Manchester United enter the race for Lille star Gabriel Magalhaes

According to the Mirror, Manchester United have entered the race to sign Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes.

The young Brazilian has been a key player for Les Dogues as they finished fourth in Ligue 1. He made 34 appearances this season, scoring one goal. Unfortunately, it was not enough to see them qualify for the Champions League.

Premier League rivals Everton looked to be in pole position to sign the 22-year-old before the lockdown. A deal worth £20m was on the cards, with the player even visiting the Everton training ground.

However, that is not certain anymore, with the likes of United also in the race. Apart from us, Gabriel has also attracted the attention of Arsenal, Napoli and PSG.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to bring in a left-footed defender to play alongside club skipper Harry Maguire. Gabriel fits that criteria apart from the other traits that make him an excellent target. (h/t Daily Record)

A number of United defenders are set to leave this summer. Chris Smalling, who has been impressive at Roma, is set to lead the exodus. Although Roma are keen, they are not ready to offer more than £12m. This falls short of United’s asking price of £20m.

Apart from the Englishman, Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones are also likely to leave.

Napoli views Gabriel as a replacement for Kalidou Koulibaly

United have been linked with the likes of Kalidou Koulibaly. Interestingly, Napoli view Gabriel as the ideal replacement for the Senegalese star. This speaks volumes about the player who looks set to have a promising future in the game.

United have to be smart in the transfer market. There is value available for the right price. Gabriel could prove to be a shrewd piece of business in the years to come.
