Manchester United’s failure to qualify for Champions League could cost them £70m
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Manchester United stare at the prospect of losing a whopping £70m should they miss out on UEFA Champions League next season.
Manchester United are currently third in the Premier League standings following the disappointing 1-1 draw against West Ham United earlier this week.
This has left with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men needing just one point from the remaining fixture tomorrow to confirm a place in Europe’s elite competition for next term. Should that target go unachieved, it will hurt the finances of the club.
As per the report, if Manchester United finish fifth, they will lose out on the Champions League qualification money, which is worth around £80m. This is £50m more than what the club stands to make from Europa League. (h/t Daily Mail)
In addition, United could lose another £20m from the kit deal with Adidas. This is because the agreement with the kit makers states that their annual £75m fee will be cut if they fail to qualify for Champions League football for two years in a row. (h/t Daily Mail)
The 20-time English champions will also see a loss of revenue from the £330m TV rebate shared between the Premier League clubs. (h/t Daily Mail)
