Manchester United target Ferran Torres agrees terms with Manchester City

According to a report from Marca (h/t Mirror), Manchester United have been dealt a blow in pursuit of Valencia winger Ferran Torres, as he has agreed terms with arch rivals Manchester City.

The 20-year-old Torres is a product of the Valencia youth academy. He broke into the first-team in December 2017. He has since grown into a key member of the team, making close to 100 appearances.

Torres has had a fairly impressive 2019/20 campaign. He has bagged 6 goals and 8 assists from 43 matches across all competitions for Los Che. This had led to interest from Manchester United in the services of the Spanish U21 international.

The 20-year-old was viewed as a potential alternative to primary transfer target Jadon Sancho. The Borussia Dortmund has is at the top of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s list. But the club are keeping their options open in case we fail to land the England international. (h/t Mirror)

However, our pursuit of the 20-year-old is set to end in defeat as our local rivals Manchester City have already agreed terms on a contract with Torres. (h/t Mirror)

There could be still some hope though, with Manchester City unwilling to pay more than £31.8m for signing the Spaniard. This is well below the valuation of Valencia, which could present us with a window to swoop in for the winger. (h/t Mirror)

Torres, given his age and the potential he has shown, would have been a decent alternative for the club. However, with Manchester City stealing a march, United will now have to look elsewhere.

But with the transfer for Sancho reportedly on track, this development shouldn’t come as a major blow.
