Manchester United fans react as Leeds United are back in the Premier League after 16 years

After a long wait of 16 years, Leeds United are back in the big leagues. The Whites, who share a bitter rivalry with Manchester United had their promotion back to the Premier League confirmed on Friday.

After West Brom failed to beat Huddersfield Town, Leeds, who are currently leading the Championship table, cannot finish outside the top two. Meaning automatic promotion to the Premier League is guaranteed.

Leeds, under the tutelage of Marcelo Bielsa, came very close to earning promotion last season. But, having faltered back then, they have now managed to make their way back to top-flight football.

Manchester United and Leeds have a long standing rivalry, sometimes nicknamed the Roses rivalry. It will now be renewed once the 2020/21 campaign starts later this year after 16 long years.

The two teams did meet in a pre-season friendly last summer, but haven’t faced each other in a competitive game since a League Cup tie back in 2011. That game ended in a 3-0 win for us, away at Elland Road.

With Leeds now back in the Premier League, a number of fans were excited to renew the rivalry. Here are some of the reactions from the Manchester United supporters on the news of the Whites’ promotion.
