“Immense talent” – Academy head backs rising starlet to follow in breakout Man United star’s footsteps

Hannibal Mejbri backed to have the same impact as Mason Greenwood

According to MEN, Manchester United youngster, Hannibal Mejbri has been backed to emulate the success of Mason Greenwood this season.

To call the youngster the next Greenwood may sound premature considering he is just 18. However, given the impact that he has had, it might as well become the norm for academy youngsters.

Greenwood has found the back of the net numerous times this season. With potentially eight more games to go, he could become the third United ace to breach the 20-goal barrier this season.

Mejbri arrived at the club as a precariously talented 16-year-old last year. He has starred for the club’s under-18 side and looks set to be fast-tracked into the senior side.

Academy chief Nicky Butt has a stellar opinion of the youngster and has voiced his opinion that Mejbri can emulate Greenwood.

“Talent-wise, he’s got such an immense talent to go on and play at a high level but there’s a long way to go yet.”

Butt has however called for patience as Mejbri still needs to build on his physicality.  Like Greenwood, he appears to have worked hard to muscle up while in lockdown and will hope to make a similar impact in the senior side next season.

“He’s not got anything on him just yet, he needs to build up his size and build up his physicality.”

United have in recent months looked to bring in some of the best young talents in world football. If it goes as expected, Mejbri could become the next wonderkid to come through the ranks.
