Manchester United are closing in on Federico Chiesa
According to Corriere Fiorentina (h/t Daily Mail), Manchester United are closing in on Fiorentina winger Federico Chiesa.
The 22-year-old has built up a reputation as one of the best wide men in Serie A. He has made 30 appearances for the Viola this season and has scored 7 goals and 5 assists.
According to the report, a £50million-plus deal ‘is close to being agreed’. However, there remain some doubts in Chiesa’s camp about leaving Italy for the Premier League.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to bring in a right-winger, with Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho the primary target. With the Bundesliga giant holding out for around £100m, United are looking for cheaper alternatives.
Chiesa is one of the players, with United even scouting him in the 1-1 draw against AC Milan. The Italian costs roughly half of what Sancho does and is comparatively an economical option.
One of Italy’s best young prospects, the young winger is a dynamic player who will strengthen us immensely on the flank. Fiorentina are not against selling him and matters will proceed quicker should he say yes to a move.
The Viola will, however, hold onto their valuation of the player. The same was confirmed by Fiorentina owner Rocco Commisso.
Chiesa is a versatile player capable of playing in a variety of positions. This should give Solskjaer enough flexibility to incorporate him alongside our front three.
