Ousmane Dembele to cost Manchester United £53m
According to Mundo Deportivo via Sport Witness (h/t Mirror), Manchester United target Ousmane Dembele could be available for as low as £53m.
This represents a significant drop in the price of a player who cost a whopping £112.5million just three years ago.
He is seen as a cheaper alternative to Jadon Sancho. Ironically, Dembele was the player Sancho replaced at Borussia Dortmund. How times have changed.
Sancho is at the top of United’s summer wishlist. He will not, however, come cheap, with Dortmund demanding about £87m for their ace winger. (h/t The Athletic)
To be fair, Dembele has endured a nightmare stay in Catalunya. Although he has shown off his prodigious skill at times, he has barely been available enough to be able to replicate it consistently.
During his three years at the Nou Camp, Dembele has made 74 appearances, scoring 19 goals and 17 assists. (h/t Transfermarkt)
The major concern continues to be his unenviable injury record. So far, he has missed 86 matches due to injury and two more due to suspension. A damning statistic for one of the world’s most expensive players.
Dembele is currently recovering from yet another injury and will not take part in the current campaign. He has made just nine appearances for the Catalans this season, scoring one goal. (h/t Transfermarkt)
When on song, Dembele is one of the most devastating attackers in the league. However, it is pointless if he is not available to take the field when needed.
