Gerard Martino backs Raul Jimenez to join Manchester United switch
Speaking to Football Picante (h/t Express), Mexico national team boss Gerard Martino has backed Raul Jimenez to make the switch to Manchester United.
Jimenez signed for Wolves in 2018, initially on loan, before making the deal permanent last summer. The Mexican international has been a prolific goalscorer for the club during his two years at the Molineux.
Martino believes his ace will be the ideal replacement for former United striker Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian left for Inter Milan last summer and United are yet to replace him.
Despite the likes of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, and Mason Greenwood all impressing, Jimenez will bring in a new dimension to our attack.
A true number nine, he is well versed in finding the back of the net. Something he does for Wolves regularly.
“There are many forwards like Rashford, Martial and the boy who now plays as right-winger: Greenwood but since Romelu Lukaku left I can’t see a pure number nine like Raul.”
Martino has backed Jimenez to make a name for himself at a bigger club. Also linked with Juventus, Martino believes he will find it hard to break into the line-up in Turin.
“A player has to aim for more and how good it would be for him to go to play for Manchester United.”
Although he is 29, Jimenez would add a genuine goalscoring option for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Jimenez has been in superb form this season and has scored 24 goals and 10 assists in all competitions.

United have an advantage when it comes to the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes. He has strong connections with United. This could make a potential switch more doable. Jimenez’s current contract runs until 2023. (h/t Express)
It remains to be seen if a deal will come to fruition.
