Twitter reacts as Peter Schmeichel slams Manchester United for selling Jonny Evans
Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel took to Twitter to express his dismay at Manchester United selling Jonny Evans.
The Northern Irishman came through the youth ranks at United before going on to play for the first-team. A three-time Premier League champion, he went on to make 198 appearances for the club.
The 32-year-old joined West Bromwich Albion, where to his credit, he reinvented himself.
That earned him a move to Leicester City, where he has formed a solid partnership alongside current United skipper Harry Maguire and now Saglar Soyuncu.
Schmeichel’s tweet came following Leicester’s 3-0 win over Crystal Palace. A match in which his son played as well.
Evans has matured as a player. He simply was not good enough to be a starter at United. Having spent over a decade at the club, he never displayed the skills to show that he would be a world-class defender.
It is easier for him to play with less pressure on the back at Leicester. The pressure of donning the United jersey weighs down heavily on some – Evans included.
Fans took to Twitter to disagree with Schmeichel’s assessment. We take a look at a few of them below.

I don’t think you remember the player he was when he left.

He is miles better than he was back in that time.
He was finished the moment he spat at the opposition v Newcastle and was sent off…..van gaal (rightly or wrongly) was never going to trust him again. Was an idiot for doing it.

Problem with Evans is he always had a mistake in him each game. Good squad player but never more for me.
