Dean Henderson praises David de Gea, but hints at exit
As reported by the Metro, Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson, currently on loan at Sheffield United, heaped praises on David de Gea. However, the Englishman also hinted that he might have to leave the club.
Henderson, 23, is a product of United’s youth academy. The past three seasons have seen the custodian go out on loan. Having impressed at Shrewsbury Town in 2017/18, Henderson has been with Sheffield United for the past two seasons.
The Englishman helped the Blades get promoted to the Premier League and has been one of their best players this term as well, leading a surprise charge for European football.
With his loan deal expiring at the end of the season, there have been a lot of speculations surrounding him. There have been calls for Henderson to replace David de Gea as the first-choice at United after the Spaniard’s difficult campaign.
However, Henderson, in a classy message to his senior teammate, has claimed that the Spaniard deserves to remain the No. 1 at the club. (h/t Metro)
“The fans have to remember what he’s done for the last nine years – he’s been phenomenal. He’s probably been the best player at Manchester United for that time period. He should get another opportunity.”
Henderson further added that it remains his dream to become the No. 1 at Manchester United and have a career like De Gea’s. However, he would be open to leaving should the opportunity not come. (h/t Metro)
“I think it’s clear for everyone to know, I want to play for Manchester United and England. Maybe I’ll get the opportunity, maybe I won’t, then I’ll have to look down a different avenue.”
