Louis Saha believes Manchester United star Anthony Martial can help salvage the season.

Anthony Martial was unhappy over losing his number nine jersey

According to the Mirror, Manchester United star Anthony Martial was unhappy over losing his No.9 jersey to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

This was revealed by former United star Patrice Evra, who revealed that the Frenchman’s morale was down in the dumps following the decision.

The former Monaco starlet got off to the best of starts at United. It was a memorable first few weeks at United as the striker did justice to the hype that surrounded his arrival.

It is fair to say that he has failed to match the promise and has petered off since. This is especially true under the tenure of Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese tactician brought in Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who was given the No.9 jersey held by Martial.

“Unfortunately I think they let him really down when they swapped the shirt with Zlatan.”

According to the report, Evra revealed that Martial was against giving up his number. Mourinho still went ahead with his plan and the Frenchman ended up with the No.11 jersey instead.

Although Zlatan is one of the best strikers in the world, he shouldn’t have been appeased to the extent that it annoyed Martial. Swapping jersey numbers is normal but the young Frenchman had done nothing wrong to go through the ordeal.

Zlatan was at best a short-term option while Martial was undoubtedly the future. By glorifying the past and not looking at the future, the club risked displeasing a potential superstar.
