£35m the price tag for Championship starlet as Man United face Liverpool threat

Liverpool enter race for Manchester United target Ben White who is valued at £35m

According to Football Insider (h/t Express), Liverpool will compete against Manchester United for the signature of Ben White.

The 22-year-old, who joined Brighton and Hove Albion in 2016, is currently on loan at Championship table-toppers Leeds United

White has been a key member of Marcelo Bielsa’s side this season. He has made 43 appearances in all competitions and has made two assists. (h/t Transfermarkt)

His performances have caught the attention of a host of Premier League clubs. Apart from us and Liverpool, the list includes Arsenal, Leicester City, and Manchester City. (h/t Express)

The Merseysiders view the youngster as a replacement for backup defender Dejan Lovren. The Croatian is a weak link in the Liverpool rearguard and the club could finally be ready to replace him.

They will, however, have to stump up the £35million asking price for Brighton to even consider the offer.

White is a promising player who could develop into something special under the right guidance. He is well worth taking a shot on if United are willing to invest in a new centre-back.

Chris Smalling and Phil Jones are both out of favour, while the likes of Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly have struggled with form and fitness respectively. Adding White into the mix will give us a young but experienced option.

White got his first taste of senior football in the fourth tier of English football at Newport County in 2017-18. He made 51 appearances for the club and won the Player of the Year award.

His performances led to him spending the 2018-19 season on loan at League One side Peterborough United. He has made just two senior appearances for Brighton.
