“Reminds me of myself” – Former star backs key attacking duo to emulate Man United legends

Dwight Torke backs Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford to emulate the club’s best

Speaking to the Sun, former Manchester United star Dwight Yorke has likened the partnership between Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford to the one he shared with Andy Cole.

Yorke formed an excellent partnership alongside Cole at Old Trafford. They scored an impressive 53 goals among themselves as United won the treble in 1999.

Martial’s hat-trick against Sheffield has taken him to 19 goals in all competitions this season, the same as Rashford.

“Anthony reminds me of myself and Thierry Henry in the way he has started his career playing out wide.”

The duo’s prolific return has seen Yorke compare them to the iconic United duo from the 90s.

“He is the perfect partner for Anthony in that he can play just off him as a number ten and drop into the pockets, going long or short or floating wide off much like I did with Andy Cole.”

With Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez now at inter Milan, Martial and Rashford have the opportunity to build up a solid partnership.

“I can see a good bond developing between the two and good connection.”

The best strikers hunt in pairs and the two have already shown they are capable of doing that. Rashford was the creator in chief as he assisted two of Martial’s goals against the Blades.

Being compared to the frontline that helped us win the treble is no mean feat. Martial and Rashford are still young and have their best years ahead of them.

Hopefully, in time, the duo will have a similar trophy count as our veterans.
