Club legend launches a staunch defence of world-class Man United star

Roy Keane launches a staunch defense of Paul Pogba

According to the Independent (h/t MEN), former Manchester United skipper Roy Keane has launched an impassioned defence of Paul Pogba.

The Frenchman has come under the scanner for what is perceived as underperforming for the club. Keane refuses to buy the argument and believes that the 27-year-old gives his all for United.

“Obviously Pogba has had his critics because he is so talented.”

He has consistently been linked with a move to Real Madrid or a return to Juventus. It didn’t help matters that his agent Mino Raiola openly spoke out against the club.

Now back to fitness, the French World Cup winner is looking to form a dynamic partnership with January signing Bruno Fernandes. Keane believes Pogba will play an important role as the squad continues to progress under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Injury has been a major reason for the Frenchman’s absence this season. Keane believes a player can lose confidence when carrying a knocks.

“Just because a player is having a difficult time doesn’t mean they aren’t giving their all.”

Pogba has made 153 appearances for United and has scored 31 goals and 32 assists. Although it cannot be said that he has failed, it wouldn’t be amiss to categorize him as inconsistent.

“The key for Pogba, if he wants to become a really important player for Man United, is consistency. It’s no good turning up every two or three weeks and producing your piece of magic.”

Keane too touches on the topic and admits that Pogba will have to be more consistent. Unless he can produce the same level of performance every week, he cannot be considered as a match-winner for United.

The former Man United skipper also believes the Frenchman’s off-field antics would not get the same coverage had United been successful on the pitch.

Hopefully, Pogba will now start afresh at United and show us exactly what he is capable of, week in week out.
