Transfer News: Man United want £15million for under-fire English star

Manchester United want £15million for Phil Jones

According to the Express, Manchester United have placed a price tag of £15million for veteran defender Phil Jones.

The 28-year-old was touted for great things when United signed him from Blackburn Rovers in 2011. Despite a good start, injuries have prevented him from making a mark at Old Trafford.

Jones is currently low in the United hierarchy and has made just eight appearances this season. With the likes of Harry Maguire, Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof all ahead of him, the Englishman will be better off moving elsewhere.

He has made 224 appearances during his decade long stay at United. At the same time, he has also missed 123 games due to injury.

The Englishman has attracted interest from the likes of Bournemouth, Newcastle United and Everton. It will not be a surprise to see him depart in the upcoming transfer window. (h/t Metro)

A jack of all trades, Jones was once compared to England legend Duncan Edwards by United legend Sir Bobby Charlton. Alas, we never got to see that.

Jones is not the only player whose Old Trafford stay looks set to come to an end. Academy graduate Jesse Lingard too has regressed, leaving his future at the club a matter of debate.

United are keen to bring in the likes of Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish. According to the report, the Red Devils can help fund the deals by selling Jones and Lingard.

With the club going forward, we will do well to cut loose those players who have regressed. It makes no sense to carry about those who are unable to contribute to our rebuild.

It is unfortunate that Jones does not leave the club as a legend. However, football can be a cruel sport. For every Nemanja Vidic, we also get a Phil Jones.
