Manchester United not yet convinced by Dean Henderson
According to the Express, Duncan Castles believes Manchester United are not convinced that Dean Henderson is ready to replace David de Gea.
This should come as a relief to the under-fire Spaniard, who has come under the spotlight of late. His error against Tottenham Hotspur has opened the discussion if he is past his best.
There has been a number of calls for the 29-year-old to be replaced by Dean Henderson. Currently on loan at Sheffield United, the youngster has shown he has what it takes to succeed at the highest level.
Castles, however, is not convinced. He believes United are doubtful if the Englishman can replicate his form at Old Trafford.
“There are question marks, or maybe not question marks, but there is an uncertainty at Manchester United as to whether Dean Henderson is ready to become first-choice goalkeeper there.”
He believes that the club have a point given the difference in stature between the Blades and the Red Devils.
It is understandable given our position in world football. At United, the team is expected to win every game, with the smallest of mistakes coming under the scanner.
Henderson doesn’t have to look far to see that. It doesn’t take much for fans to yo-yo between support and disdain for De Gea’s performances these days.
“Psychologically it’s a different process, it’s a different job.”
De Gea has been a rock at the back for almost a decade at Old Trafford. The number of times he has single-handedly saved us is innumerable. If and when Henderson takes over, he has big boots to fill.
