Solskjaer sets a deadline for Man United star to save his Old Trafford career

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gives David de Gea 12 months to rescue United career

According to ESPN, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given David de Gea 12 months to rescue his Manchester United career.

The 29-year-old’s position has been called into question following a spate of errors over the last couple of seasons. The voices grew louder after his gaffe against Tottenham Hotspur last week.

With Dean Henderson continuing to impress at Sheffield United, United have a decision to make in the coming months.

De Gea is on his day the best keeper in the world. However, his inability to produce consistently has seen him fall behind the likes of Alisson Becker, Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, and Jan Oblak.

Henderson is held in high regard at Old Trafford. He is believed to be the club’s goalkeeping solution for the next decade. There are, however, serious reservations regarding his experience.

By giving the duo 12 months to clarify their positions, United have chosen to play it safe. Not only does it give the Spaniard the chance to get his mojo back but also afford Henderson the chance to garner more Premier League experience.

Fans too are divided on the topic. The pro-De Gea faction was given ammo when Henderson put on a stinker against Newcastle United at the weekend.

The Englishman has also attracted attention from Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus. (h/t Metro)

We personally feel that the calls of Henderson not having enough experience is unwarranted. He won the Championship Golden Glove last season and is currently leading the race for the Premier League version this time around.

He is prone to the odd gaffes like the one against Liverpool but the fact remains that he has been a better player than De Gea this season.
