Harry Maguire opens up on motivation as he prepares to face his boyhood club

Speaking to the United Review (h/t Daily Mail), Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire has admitted that being a United player is all the motivation one needs.

The 27-year-old joined the club last summer. An ever-present in the United backline, he has been one of our best players this season.

The English international was handed the armband following Ashley Young’s departure to Inter Milan in January. He has mostly led from the front, with United losing just thrice under his leadership.

“One thing for sure is, every time you put a kit on with the Manchester United badge on it, you don’t need much spurring on.”

One of the biggest names not just in football but in sport, Manchester United is an institution. The honour and motivation that comes with donning the Red shirt is not lost on the former Sheffield star.

“If you can’t get motivated to win a game of football for this club then you’re in the wrong sport, to be honest.”

Back to the future

Maguire came through the ranks at Bramall Lane before going on to make his senior bow for the Blades. Having played in the third-tier of English football, he has come a long way.

He will face off against his former side this Wednesday in a crucial match in the race for top four. United dropped two points at Spurs, while Sheffield suffered a shock loss to Newcastle United.

With Chelsea winning, both sides will be chasing a victory to keep themselves in the race.

Maguire is keen to make amends for his mistake against Tottenham Hotspur. The skipper was made to pay as Steven Bergwijn glided past him to put his side ahead.

The 27-year-old still keeps an eye out for his old side and is proud of their achievements this season. This will not, however, stop him from doing all he can to ensure our victory.
