Ansu Fati decides to stay at Barcelona amidst Manchester United interest

According to the Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo (h/t Mirror), Barcelona star Ansu Fati has made a decision on his future amidst interest from Manchester United.

The 17-year-old came through Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy. He became the second youngest debutant in club history earlier this season.

His performances prompted United to make a mammoth £89m bid for him. Having seen that rejected, the Red Devils returned with a second bid worth £136m. Once again, the bid was rejected.

The report, however, claims that the youngster has not been contacted by United. He is also not interested in a move and wants to stay at Barcelona. It goes on to say that the youngster is ready to sign a new long-term deal with a mammoth release clause of £362m.

The same was echoed by club director Xavier Vilajoana. He insisted that the Catalans are not prepared to cash in on the youngster.

“There’s no story with Ansu, we have never spoken about selling him. We won’t use players from the academy to make cash.”

Fati has impressed in his breakthrough season for Barcelona. He is touted as the eventual heir to six-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi. The Argentine too is aware of the youngster’s exploits and has an excellent opinion of him.

“He’s an amazing player and he’s got what it takes to succeed.”
