Tim Sherwood urges Solskjar to replace Maguire with Pogba as club captain
As reported by the Express, former Tottenham and Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood has urged Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to strip Harry Maguire of the captain’s armband and hand it over to Paul Pogba.
Maguire joined Manchester United only last summer in an £80m move from Leicester City. The England international has had a solid start to life at Old Trafford.
Given his impressive start, Maguire was handed the club captaincy in January, following the departure of veteran Ashley Young.
In all fairness, the centre-back has led the team well so far, although his performances have been a bit up and down at times, including in the game against Tottenham on Friday. Our captain was beaten way too easily by Steven Bergwijn on his way to the goal.
On the other hand, Pogba, who made his return from a long injury-layoff had a fine game, despite featuring for over a half an hour only.
And following the match, Tim Sherwood, talking on Premier League Productions (h/t Express), has urged Solskjaer to hand the Frenchman the club captaincy.
“For me he [Pogba] plays every single game. I would take the armband off of Maguire. For me he plays every single game. I would take the armband off of Maguire.”

While the club needs to convince Pogba to stay at the club, stripping Maguire of the captaincy wouldn’t be the right move. The Englishman has led the team impressively so far, despite a few minor blips.
And Pogba, given his past antics, needs to earn the right to be considered for the captaincy.
