“Joke” – Twitter reacts as Matt Hancock gets Man United star’s name wrong

Twitter reacts as Matt Hancock calls Marcus Rashford Daniel

Health Secretary Matt Hancock has mistakenly called Marcus Rashford as Daniel Rashford on Sky News this morning. (h/t Plymouth Herald)

The United star was instrumental in forcing the government to make a u-turn on their decision to initially deny free meal vouchers for school kids.

“Righty-ho, I will tell you what happened, the Prime Minister talked to Daniel Rashford, he considered it and made his decision – I think it’s terrific.”

The fact that this comes from a person who is the health secretary in the midst of a pandemic is a sobering thought.

Rather than put up his hands and admit he got it wrong, he attempted to make excuses for the faux-pas later on.

Speaking to BBC Breakfast, Hancock suggested that the mistake occurred in an interview that was held too early in the morning. He also went on to suggest that it could have been influenced by Harry Potter. (h/t Plymouth Herald)

How Matt Hancock sees Marcus Rashford

He revealed that his young daughter is an avid Potterhead whose constant exposure to the media may have influenced his mistake.

We are not sure we buy it. We have watched the movies and also read the books. Rather than hide him at Pivet Drive, Dumbledore should have just named the boy who lived as Daniel Radcliffe instead. There is no way the dark lord could have seen through that.

Rashford to his credit, took the incident sportingly.

There is no excuse for a government official to get a name wrong. Especially given his earlier demand that footballers must be doing more.

We take a look at how Twitter reacted to the incident.
