Police close investigation into attack on Ed Woodward’s house
According to the Daily Mail, the Cheshire police have closed their investigation into an attack on the house of Ed Woodward.
The incident occurred in January as disgruntled fans wearing balaclavas launched flares at Woodward’s house. The action gained widespread condemnation from all around.
The police have now closed the investigation into the case. It can be reopened if any new information comes to light.
According to the report, the impact of Covid-19 and time constraints surrounding offences deemed criminal damage, have both impacted on their probe.
The attack was a result of a section of the fanbase being unhappy over the way the club was run. Unrest in the stands spilled over, with the crowd appearing outside Woodward’s house.
Thankfully, the chief executive and his family were not at home. Nobody was injured in the attack.
United were quick to issue a statement and threatened to ban anyone involved in this for the rest of their lives.
It is not the first time that United fans have targeted the residences of someone associated with the club.
Wayne Rooney was confronted outside his residence in 2010. Rio Ferdinand also faced similar treatment five years earlier while negotiating new terms at Old Trafford. (h/t Independent)
Antics such as these are the acts of cowards who do not, in any way, represent the majority of our excellent supporters.
