Twitter reacts as Marcus Rashford prevails in his meal voucher campaign
According to the BBC, Marcus Rashford has prevailed in his efforts to ensure the government continues to provide free school meal vouchers during the holidays.
The government has now committed £120m that ensures all eligible children receive free school meals in term time.
This welcome news comes just a day after the UK government denied the player’s request. Undaunted Rashford promised to continue fighting. Lo and behold, victory was achieved the very next day.
The 22-year-old took to Twitter to express his joy at the decision. He also hinted that a lot can be achieved if people come together to make things happen.
The scheme will benefit 1.3million children who will not have to worry about where their next meal will come from.
In retrospect, it is an embarrassment that the government did not immediately agree to Rashford’s request or even have to be told to do so.
It was just a couple of months ago that Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Matt Hancock asked Premier League players to play their part. Rashford has now just put in a Man of the Match performance.
The decision was met with universal approval on Twitter. We take a look at some of them below.

Breaking News! Marcus Rashford will miss the Spurs game to reverse Global warming, find a cure for Covid 19, and bring an end to child poverty. Expect him back for the Shef Utd game. There’s nothing this lad can’t achieve

In an ideal world, the Prime Minister of the UK would not need to be shamed by a 22 year old footballer into ensuring the children don’t starve.

Shout out to Matt Hancock who said footballers had to play their part, and then got completely owned by Marcus Rashford doing more for kids in poverty than the government ever has.

What Marcus Rashford has done is absolute madness. So many people saying that football lacks positive roll models well this is absolutely ridiculous and will set an extremely positive example to others, great to see.
