Dwight McNeil advised to snub Manchester United interest
According to the Sun, Dwight McNeil has been advised to snub interest from Manchester United by his father.
The 20-year-old is a former member of our youth academy. He left us to join Burnley in 2014, eventually making it to their first-team in 2018.
Now a regular for the Clarets, he has made 31 appearances for the club this season. Predominantly a left-winger but capable of playing on either wing, he has scored two goals and assisted five. (h/t Transfermarkt)
McNeil’s father is confident that his son can play at the highest level. However, he does not want it to come at the expense of regular playing time.
“He’s doing really well. It would be best for him to stay put at the moment and go that way.”
The youngster has played in all 29 Premier League games for Burnley this season, a valuable experience for someone so young. (h/t Transfermarkt)
“I believe with improvement he can be good enough for the top teams.”
His thoughts echo that of former Premier League star Kieran Tripper. The Englishman quit Turf Moor in 2015 to join Tottenham Hotspur.
There is no doubt that the 20-year-old is a skilled player. Despite that, he will find it difficult to get anywhere near the same game time at United. Currently, he is better off at Burnley.
