Marcus Rashford tipped to receive knighthood as odds are slashed
Manchester United ace Marcus Rashford could become the youngest footballer to receive knighthood. A hero on the football pitch, he has shown that he is one off it as well.
The 22-year-old has stepped up at a time of great need to help the vulnerable. The English international has helped raise around £20million for Fareshare, which is the UK’s largest charity fighting hunger and food waste.
The amount ensures that three million meals will find their way to those in need of it. Not resting on his laurels, he has vowed to keep working until every child in the UK will no longer have to worry about where their next meal is going to come from.
His activities have drawn acclaim from a number of sources including rival fans. Last week, he received a High Sheriff Special Recognition award in acknowledgement of his work in the Manchester area.
According to the Mirror, bookmakers have reduced the odds of him being knighted this year. The report also goes on to claim that Rashford is now in the run to become the BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
If he is knighted, he will join the pantheon of United legends that includes Sir Matt Busby, Sir Bobby Charlton and Sir Alex Ferguson. (h/t The Mirror)
The last footballing-related knighthood was conferred to Liverpool legend Sir Kenny Dalglish in 2018.
