Everton keen to beat Manchester United to Thiago Silva
According to French publication Le10 Sport (h/t Express), Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti is keen to beat Manchester United to Paris Saint-Germain star Thiago Silva.
The Brazilian star’s contract at PSG runs out at the end of the month. As of yet, the centre-back’s representatives have not managed to reach an agreement with the club.
It is likely that he could leave PSG at the end of his contract with a number of clubs including Arsenal keeping a close watch
According to the report, Ancelotti is keen to reunite with the defender at Goodison Park. The Italian had worked alongside the veteran Brazilian during his 2012-13 season while in charge of PSG. (h/t Express)
He has also contacted Silva over the phone to express his interest. The 35-tear-old turned down PSG’s new contract as it involved a significant pay cut. The Toffees ate open to meeting the defender’s requirements with a potential two-year deal on the table. (h/t Express)
Silva is one of the finest defenders in the world. But at 35, he is nearing the end of his career.
It is difficult to see what he can bring to our team at this age. It can be argued that his leadership and mentoring abilities can help the youngsters in our squad. However, matching anything close to Everton’s proposed two-year deal is a considerable investment.

On his day, Silva is one of the best defenders in the world. Interest in him from United has probably come a decade too late.
He is not what the club needs right now and we should not be overly concerned if Everton beat us to him.
