Manchester United close to agreeing on a deal for Federico Chiesa
According to Quotidiano Sportivo (h/t Express), Manchester United are closing in on a bumper £53m deal for Federico Chiesa.
It was earlier reported that United were willing to go big for Barcelona star Ansu Fati. The youngster was seen as an alternative for Jadon Sancho.
Fiorentina’s Chiesa is a much more economical option compared to Fati’s mammoth £151.5m release clause. The Viola are holding out for £62m. However, United are the only club to even come close to that valuation.
According to the report, Fiorentina are seriously considering the offer from United. Italian giants Juventus and Inter Milan could complicate matters if they throw their hats into the ring for the player.
A major advantage we have over them is their insistence to add players as a make-weight. This does not appeal to Fiorentina who are keen on a cash-only deal.
With two more years to go on his contract, they are negotiating from a position of strength.
The 22-year-old has built up a reputation as one of the best wide men in Serie A. He has made 26 appearances for the Viola this season and has scored 7 goals and 5 assists.
An experienced despite his age, he has played 139 first-team games scoring 29 goals and 20 assists in that time. This also includes an impressive hattrick against Roma in a 7-1 demolition in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals last year.
Capable of playing anywhere along the frontline, Chiesa’s versatility is a valuable asset. He has also won 17 caps for Italy.
