Twitter reacts as Manchester United legend Tony Dunne passes away
It is a sad day for the club as Manchester United legend Tony Dunne passed away at the age of 78. It was confirmed by the club’s official site that the Irishman breathed his last on Monday evening.
The left-back was a loyal servant to the club for 13 years. He was an ever-present in the squad that won the European Cup in 1968, becoming the first English side ever to do so.
Dunne played 535 first-team matches for the club. This puts him eighth on United’s all-time appearance list. He won the FA Cup in 1963 and was part of Matt Busby’s championship-winning teams in 1965 and 1967.
He will always be remembered fondly for his performances on the pitch and personality off it.
A true club legend, he will always be remembered by those who watched him in action. A number of fans took to Twitter to react to this unfortunate news. We take a look at a few of them below.

An under rated, yet important player in a great team. Rest in Peace Tony Dunne

Sir Alf Ramsey said that it was a pity he was born on the other side of the irish sea

I remember him as a kid and what a great player he was-seemed to be in the first team forever. A worthy opponent in the great games against @LUFC during that time . RIP

I remember him from my first football card collection as a boy. God bless and best wishes to Tony’s family. RIP 🕊

When I was a kid I used to tell people he was my uncle. He wasn’t, of course. Great player. RIP.

Came over from Ireland during a difficult period for United and dated my Nana for a time. He won everything and only 7 players have played more games than him for the club, but he never got a testimonial. RIP Legend ❤️

This is such terribly sad news to read. Tony Dunne one of those who left Dublin in the early 1960’s and then became a first team regular for over eleven years at Old Trafford. We forever owe so much to great players like Tony who was honoured to play for @ManUtd #RIPTonyDunne
