Manchester United boost as Real Madrid pull out of Donny van de Beek race
According to Spanish publication Marca (h/t Metro), Manchester United have been handed a huge boost in their bid to sign Donny van de Beek.
La Liga giants Real Madrid have now pulled out of the race to sign the midfielder. The Spaniards are unlikely to make a signing this window.
The La Liga giants are believed to have agreed on personal terms with van de Beek earlier this year. However, the coronavirus pandemic has affected the club’s finances and altered their transfer plans.
Madrid are expected to face a loss of around £150m this calendar year. In spite of their need to strengthen the midfield, the club are willing to put it off for another 12 months.
With Real out of the equation, United now have a clear run at the Dutchman. The Red Devils had already held talks with the player regarding a switch to Old Trafford.
A cheaper alternative!
This also throws a spanner into Ajax Amsterdam’s hopes of inciting a bidding war. Valued at £40m, Van de Beek will cost significantly lesser than Jack Grealish. (h/t Metro)
Van de Beek had scored 10 goals and 11 assists this season prior to football being suspended. The season has now been declared null and void, making his efforts pointless.
Van de Beek is a skilled player who has shown he has the ability to compete at the highest level. Signing him will also be in line with our policy of bringing in the best youth talents.
The Dutchman caught the club’s eye in Ajax’s run to the UEFA Champions League semifinals in 2018. He scored key goals against both Juventus and Tottenham Hotspur, leading his side to within seconds of reaching the final.
