Manchester United to hijack Real Madrid’s move for Donny van de Beek
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United are looking to hijack Real Madrid’s bid for Ajax star Donny van de Beek.
The coronavirus crisis has not left any club immune from financial crisis, and Real Madrid are no exception. The La Liga giants were planning a £49m bid for Van de Beek. However, with them now unsure as to be able to afford him, United have entered the fray once again. (h/t Daily Mail)
According to the report, Ed Woodward is determined for the club to capture the midfielder for £36m, which is less than Madrid’s supposed offer. He has already warned shareholders that they are entering into one of the most testing periods in club history.
It is not the first time that the Red Devils have been linked to Van de Beek. We were keen on him last summer, but a deal could not be agreed upon. (h/t Daily Mail)
The Dutchman caught the club’s eye in Ajax’s sensational run to the UEFA Champions League semifinals in 2018. He scored key goals against Juventus and Tottenham Hotspur, leading his side to within a whisker of the final.
A player with an eye for goal, his creativity will boost the quality of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side. At just 23, he can only get better under the right guidance.
Having come through the youth ranks at Ajax, Van de Beek has gone on to make 175 appearances for the club, bagging 41 goals and 34 assists.

Van de Beek had scored 10 goals and 11 assists this season prior to football being suspended. The season has now been declared null and void, making his efforts pointless.
