Manchester United face off against Manchester City to Facundo Pellistri

Speaking on the Uruguayan radio show La Oral Mediodia (h/t MEN), the agent of Facundo Pellistri, Nicolas Rotundo has confirmed that Manchester United are interested in his client.

The Uruguayan winger, who currently plays for boyhood club Penarol, has attracted interest from across Europe and the MLS. Apart from us, the likes of Manchester City, Newcastle United, and Real Madrid are all keen.

However, Pellistri is happy to stay where he is at this moment in time. Capable of playing on either flank, the 18-year-old has made 25 appearances for the Penarol first-team. During this time, he has scored one goal and three assists. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Rotundo also went on to confirm that he has spoken to a number of clubs.

“Yes, there are many interested parties and we have spoken with several clubs.”

In a major blow to our aspirations, he admitted that his client would prefer to move to Spain in the future.

“As a preference, the Spanish market would be ideal.”

An advantage United can try to exploit is through former player Diego Forlan. The Uruguayan legend currently manages Penarol.

Both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Forlan were teammates during their time at United. It remains to be seen if the club will make use of this to change the player’s mind.

The Red Devils have focussed on signing promising young players in recent windows. Having already secured Hannibal Mejbri and Dillon Hoogewerf last season, they are set to add Radek Vitek, Joe Hugill, and Marc Jurado this summer.

The likes of Mason GreenwoodBrandon Williams, and James Garner have also come through the club’s academy recently.
