Rabbi Matondo opens up on future amidst Manchester United interest
According to MEN, Schalke starlet Rabbi Matondo has opened up on his future amidst interest from Manchester United.
The 19-year-old Liverpool-born youngster is viewed by United as a cheaper alternative to Jadon Sancho. Just like Sancho, Matondo too left English shores in search of better opportunities in Germany. He has now made 22 appearances for Schalke, scoring one goal.
The youngster, to his credit, is refusing to get his head turned and is fully committed to Schalke.
“Obviously there are people talking, asking me and stuff but I am not really thinking about it.”
Matondo was coy when asked about his intentions to return to England. He is keen to repay Schalke for the faith shown in him but has refused to dismiss that he would like to return one day.
“I just want to give my all and then whatever happens in the future happens. Never say never.”
The 19-year-old has a release clause in his contract which would allow United to sign him for €60million this summer. His former club Manchester City have their own buyback option at a comparatively lower €46.5million. (h/t MEN)
United believe they could possibly sign him for a much lower fee than his release clause this summer. Borussia Dortmund star Sancho, however, remains the priority target.
A versatile attacker who is capable of playing anywhere along the frontline, he is considered by the Red Devils as a low-risk option. His performances have also garnered praise by Wales national team coach Ryan Giggs. (h/t MEN)

Having made his international debut in 2018, the 19-year-old has gone on to win a total of four caps for the Welsh senior side.
Despite his numbers being nowhere near to Sancho’s, the fact that Giggs rates him highly shows there is more to the player than what meets the eye.
