Sir Alex is one of the greatest managers of all time. During his time at Old Trafford, the legendary Scotsman managed a number of superstars, including Ronaldo.

Ronaldo left the club for Real Madrid in 2009, after having been at the club for six years. However, according to Evra, Fergie tried to bring back Ronaldo to Old Trafford in 2013 as he looked to build a Champions League winning squad. (h/t Daily Mail)

Along with Ronaldo, Sir Alex also had his eye on Gareth Bale, who was tearing up Premier League football at Tottenham Hotspur, Evra revealed on the latest UTD Podcast episode. (h/t Daily Mail)

The Frenchman added that Sir Alex had no intention of retiring and had chalked out plans for the next season with the duo in mind.

“He said to me ‘Patrice, I will never retire. I will be here another 10 years. He then said: ‘My target is I’m 99 per cent sure we will have Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale.”

The Frenchman also added that he spoke to Ronaldo about the subject and received an affirmative response from him. (h/t Daily Mail)

However, Sir Alex’s plans failed to come to fruition as Ronaldo stayed put at Real Madrid, while Bale joined him at the Bernabeu. And having failed to bring together his grand plan, Ferguson decided to hang up his boots, Evra claimed. (h/t Daily Mail)

Things have been difficult for us since the Scotsman’s retirement. No league titles, not being able to finish in the top four consistently, the club’s fortunes have spiralled down. Hopefully, things improve under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

As far as Ronaldo’s failed return is concerned, had he come back and Fergie stayed, things would’ve been special.
