Andy Cole claims Man United will not have to wait for the title like Liverpool
According to Sky Sports, Manchester United great Andy Cole believes the Red Devils are closing in on a return to the top. He has predicted that the club will be in the mix for the title in the next two seasons.
The Englishman is an authority on the matter, having spent a trophy-laden six seasons at Old Trafford. Cole made 274 appearances for the club while scoring 121 goals and 44 assists.
The Red Devils have failed to add to their Premier League tally since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the fourth man to be entrusted with the reins at Old Trafford as the club enters its seventh year without a league title.
“It has taken Liverpool 30 years to get themselves in this position – I never want to see Man United in that position, taking 30 years to possibly win the Premier League again.
“Man United will get there – with the better players that they keep and the better players they bring in – come possibly next season or the season after that.”
Cole believes it could soon be coming to an end. He has prophesized that United will not have to wait as long as arch-rivals Liverpool to end their title drought.
The Anfield side look to be on course to end their 30-year wait this season. Worryingly, their win will bring them to with one of our record tally of 20 league titles.
United were in good nick prior to the suspension of the league, having risen to 5th place. Cole believes the improvement is clear to be seen and it is about taking small but steady steps.
“It is all about making small steps.”
With the club having recruited smartly over the last two windows, United are now in a better position than recent seasons. Cole believes the addition of better players will show better results.
A formidable challenge
Although we hope Cole’s words are prophetic, the top two sides in the league – Liverpool and Manchester City are miles ahead of us at the moment.
Not only are they top of the league but also rank among the best in Europe at the moment. United have certainly improved under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but we are yet to achieve the consistency required to challenge over the course of a season.

United are a team on the rise. It should be done with the aim of ensuring continued domination rather than orient it with immediate results.
Solskjaer seems to be thinking along the same lines as he targets young promising players who can grow together. It remains to be seen if he can replicate the success he experienced at the club as a player.
