Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to sell three players from Sir Alex Ferguson era
According to the Express, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to offload three players brought in under legendary boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
It will be the end of an era as the last three players to win the Premier League in United colours are seemingly on their way out.
This three includes Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and surprisingly, David de Gea. The fact that the former two are on the list should come as no surprise.
Smalling is currently on loan at Roma whereas Jones has been a peripheral figure making the odd appearances.
Smalling has impressed at Roma and the Italians are keen to keep the player. United’s asking price of £30million continues to be a spot of difference between the two sides.
United are not expected to give the player a chance at Old Trafford and will look to move him on. Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are also keeping tabs on the Englishman.
Ferguson had such high hopes for Jones. Sadly, it was not to be. He has struggled under the managers that followed and is now an expendable asset. It is now time for him to move on.
A forced decision
De Gea is the wild card in the equation. The Spaniard has made a number of mistakes this season, yet is seen by Solksjaer as one of the best in the world.
United are lucky to have a readymade replacement in Dean Henderson. The youngster currently on loan at Sheffield United and has made an impression. He is keen to start in the United goal, giving United somewhat of a dilemma.
Antagonizing the youngster could come at a cost, with the likes of PSG, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all ready to make a move.
If it does come to that, United could have no other option but sell De Gea to accommodate Henderson. Real Madrid remain keen on the Spaniard and could be tempted to make a move in a cut-price deal.
