Man United legends reach out to the elderly amidst coronavirus crisis
According to the club’s official site, Manchester United legends Bryan Robson, Gary Pallister, and Andrew Cole, among others, have joined club staff in reaching out to elderly fans and season-ticket holders who are in lockdown all over the country.
The program plans to reach up to 3000 fans with this initiative during the coronavirus pandemic.
The club’s decision has been taken to bring about hope to the older population who are in isolation. Getting a call from one’s footballing heroes is a dream and such an action will bring about a smile on our older fans’ faces (h/t ManUtd.com).
The same was confirmed by the chief operating officer, Collette Roche. He also expressed his joy at having legends available for the outreach program (h/t ManUtd.com).
“Having the legends involved has been a real bonus.”
Robson enjoyed reminiscing about memorable matches and moments with fans over the phone. Pallister, on the other hand, admitted that he misses coming to Old Trafford and meeting the fans who attend games (h/t ManUtd.com).
“We all have a duty to reach out to those who might need help or simply some company at this time”
Our fans are some of the best in the country and have lifted us up a number of times over the years. It is now the club’s duty to give back those loyal supporters at a time of great need.
The outreach program builds on the club’s support for the #DonateYourWords campaign. Together with its partner Cadbury and Age UK, the initiative combats loneliness among the elderly. (h/t ManUtd.com)
