Paul Pogba reveals he learned a lot from Paul Scholes
According to UTD podcast (h/t Manchester Evening News), Man United superstar Paul Pogba has opened up on his experiences of playing alongside club legend Paul Scholes and Italian great Andrea Pirlo.
The Frenchman came through the ranks at United while Scholes was still a valued first-team member under Sir Alex Ferguson in 2012. Pogba would move to Juventus that summer to play alongside Pirlo.
He has now revealed that training alongside Scholes at the club’s Carrington training base helped him become a better player.
“I really learned and have been learning. It was unbelievable for me, seeing them training like that, and it pushed me.”
He labelled both Pirlo and Scholes as midfielders who controlled the game. Watching them taught Pogba a lot and pushed him to get better.
The Ginger Prince came through the United setup in the early 1990s as a striker before dropping deeper into midfield later in his career.
Pogba has now admitted to having gone through a similar situation at United. He credits his need to stay on the ball as the reason for the incident.
“I started as a striker and then a no.10 and then a no.6”
Pogba kept dropping back in spite of being a striker. This prompted a coach to tell him to play as a number 10.
“I still loved the ball too much and had too many touches so he put me at no.6.”
There is no doubt that the Frenchman is one of the best midfielders in the world on his day. Few can forget his memorable performance in the World Cup final against Croatia in 2018.
