Man United contact Barcelona over 16-year-old generational La Masia talent

Manchester United enquire about Barcelona’s Marc Jurado

According to Spanish publication Diario Sport, relayed by Sport Witness (h/t Daily Mail), Manchester United have enquired about Barcelona’s Marc Jurado.

The 16-year-old is held in high regard at La Masia. A talented youngster, he is seen as the leader of a generation by the Catalans.

United made the inquiry through email after the player turned 16 on Monday. A right-winger, he is considered to be among the best in his age group.

Barcelona are keen on retaining the player and are confident they can get him to sign professional terms when he comes of age. They remain hopeful that he will make the step up to the senior side just like Lionel Messi and Xavi have done in the past.

According to the report, United hope the player will follow in the footsteps of Gerard Pique and Cesc Fabregas and make a name for himself away from the Nou Camp.

It’s better to take those comments with a pinch of salt considering both Pique and Fabregas to Barcelona. Pique was a promising defender at United but only reached his peak after rejoining Barcelona. Hopefully, if we do sign Jurado, it will be different.

Playing the long game

Under Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, United have embarked upon a rebuild involving the best young talents available.

Jurado certainly fits the bill as a young, upcoming footballer who can be nurtured into something special. He also has age on his side and can become a long-term addition to our side.

Solksjaer’s United rebuild has shown promising signs this season. The signings of both Bruno Fernandes and Odion Ighalo have proven to be astute and have furthered our goals for this season.

It remains to be seen who we bring in the upcoming windows.
