Man United still need 3-4 new players to compete with Liverpool and Man City

Manchester United still need three or four new players to compete with rivals Liverpool and Manchester City. This is according to club legend Paul Scholes (h/t Metro).

However, the former midfielder reckons that the signing of Bruno Fernandes in the January transfer window had boosted their chances of mounting a Premier League title challenge next season (h/t Metro).

Paul Scholes says United need 3-4 signings to compete with Liverpool and Man City

‘I still think they are a bit off the pace, they’ve looked good lately since Fernandes came in but Liverpool and Manchester City are streets ahead. There are three or four signings that can help but for the first time in a long time you feel like they could close the gap to the top.’

Indeed, Fernandes’ signing from Sporting Lisbon in January has improved our form dramatically. The Portuguese international has added the creative element that was sorely missing from our side for most of the season.

It isn’t a surprise that the club’s 11-game unbeaten run has coincided with Fernandes’ arrival.

Scholes has compared his quality to the likes of Eric Cantona and Teddy Sheringham, while also stating that the midfielder can have the same impact for us as Kevin De Bruyne has had for our noisy neighbours (h/t Metro).

While Fernandes has helped things improve, Scholes is right in saying that we are still some way away from competing with our rivals.

As things stand, Manchester United are 37 points below Liverpool in the Premier League table and twelve behind Manchester City.
