Man Utd receive boost in Ighalo deal as Shanghai Shenhua identify back-up

According to a report by The Mirror, Manchester United have received a major boost in pursuit of a permanent deal for on-loan star Odion Ighalo.

The 30-year-old joined on a deadline day move during the January transfer window. Although there were initial qualms about signing the former Watford star, Ighalo has managed to become a fan favourite at Old Trafford.

In the wake of Marcus Rashford’s injury, we were left with just Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood as options up top. As a result, signing Ighalo may have been a panic move but it has paid off well.

With 4 goals to his name in 3 starts so far, Ighalo has shown the potential to become a key figure for us even in the longer run. His added Premier League experience would come in handy for a young United squad.

United have the option to sign him permanently at the end of his loan deal but with the season suspended until the end of April to deal with the coronavirus pandemic, it remains to be seen how the situation develops.

If the season gets postponed further, it would affect the summer transfer window as well. And Ighalo’s contract with Shanghai Shenhua runs only till the end of May.

However, with The Mirror suggesting that the Chinese outfit have found a replacement, it would help us in our aim to sign him permanently.
