Paul Merson claims Man Utd signing Aubameyang would turn club into “major force”
According to Paul Merson’s column for Sky Sports, the pundit has backed Manchester United to sign Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the summer transfer window as it would turn the club into a “major force”.
United have been linked with a move for the Gabonese hitman, as per The Sun (h/t Sky Sports).
With a year left on his current contract with the Gunners, the Red Devils would be required to stump a fee in the region of £50m to acquire his services.
Since Romelu Lukaku’s departure to Inter Milan last summer, we have been left light as far as options up front are concerned. Marcus Rashford has done a brilliant job but when he got injured, we were in quite a crisis.
As a result, United bagged a deadline-day move for Odion Ighalo from Shanghai Shenhua in the January transfer window. While that move has paid off, we need more than a stop-gap solution.
“Aubameyang is what Manchester United are missing. He is a goal scorer and goal scorers are priceless,” writes Merson (h/t Sky Sports).
“They are crying out for someone who is going to score them 20 to 25 goals, and that’s what Aubameyang can bring,” he added.
Given Aubameyang’s experience with Arsenal – not to mention, his European exploits with Borussia Dortmund – he would be an excellent choice to boost our attacking unit.
