Man United face Bayern threat to sign this £45m-rated Bundesliga starlet

Manchester United keen on beating Bayern to Denis Zakaria

According to Sky Germany (h/t Express), Manchester United are keen on the signature of Borussia Monchengladbach defensive midfielder Denis Zakaria.

The 23-year-old has caught the eyes of Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, who has identified the Swiss international as one of his top targets for the summer. United, however, face competition from German powerhouse Bayern Munich.

Zakaria has two goals and two assists in 31 appearances as Gladbach lie in fourth place in the Bundesliga this season. A top-four finish will ensure that the Die Fohlen will play Champions League football next season.

According to the report, Manchester United lead the chase for the 23-year-old who has also drawn attention from Atletico Madrid, Liverpool, and Borussia Dortmund.

Having joined from Young Boys in 2017, Zakaria has grown to become a key player for Gladbach. Primarily a defensive midfielder, he can also play in central midfield and central defence.

A towering presence at 6’3″, he has been compared to Toni Kroos by German legend Lothar Matthaus.

The player has previously spoken of wanting to style his play like Patrick Vieria and Paul Pogba. He could very well play alongside the latter if he makes the move to the theatre of dreams.
