Manchester United could sell David De Gea to fund summer signings
Manchester United could end up selling David De Gea to raise funds for transfers in the summer, according to Goal (h/t Express).
The Red Devils must aim to further enhance the squad after the successful capture of Bruno Fernandes in January.
Ole Gunnar Solksjaer missed out on signing Erling Braut Haaland and had to settle for Odion Ighalo, who was signed on a loan for the remainder of the season.
The Red Devils have been linked to the likes of Jack Grealish, James Maddison and Jadon Sancho. The trio will not come cheap and United will have to spend big to secure them.
With Paul Pogba also on his way out, United stand to recoup a decent amount in player sales.
According to the report, De Gea is believed to be in favour of a return to Spain. In the event of a sale, Dean Henderson, who is currently on loan at Sheffield United, will replace the Spaniard in the starting XI (h/t Express).
The future is now!
Henderson has impressed in his loan spell with the Blades. He has not only been a solid presence in a high flying Sheffield side but has also improved over the course of the season.
He has kept more clean sheets than De Gea and is in running for the Premier League Golden Glove.
Just 22, Henderson has posted numbers comparable to the United star. He does lack in experience to the Spaniard but has the potential to become an elite goalkeeper in the league.
De Gea too struggled initially after making the move from Atletico Madrid. He has, in time, established himself as one of the best in the league – if not the world.
