Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar has revealed that he is close to signing a new deal with the Italian club despite interest from Manchester United (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The 24-year-old centre-back has been impressive for the Serie A giants this season and is seen as a transfer target for the Red Devils, according to the report.
The report adds that Manchester United wanted the Slovakian in the summer but Inter slapped a £76m asking price for the centre-back.
Speaking to Sky Italia (h/t Manchester Evening News), the defender claimed he was set to remain with Inter for a few more years:
“My contract renewal? We are close.
“I have a great relationship with the club.”
Time to move on to other targets?
Inter manager Luciano Spalletti further sounded out any clubs interested in the defender by claiming no one could afford him.
The Slovakian has grown in stature at Inter and would have made a decent signing for the Red Devils.
Although Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has turned our fortunes around this season, there still is some concern regarding our centre-backs.
Eric Bailly is prone to making mistakes while the likes of Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones just can’t seem to perform consistently.
Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof have had good seasons, but we need one quality centre-back that can control games and command the back four well.
United should be spending big in the summer and it will be interesting to see what our activity is in the transfer window.
