Bayern Munich defender Mats Hummels has emerged as an option for Manchester United in the winter window, according to Bild (h/t Sun).
The report claims that Jose Mourinho could make a move for the centre-back in the winter window as Hummels isn’t a regular starter under new manager Nico Kovac.
The 29-year-old has only started three out of six Bundesliga games this season. The report adds that a move for the German could take place in Mourinho remains as the United manager till January.
Hummels was linked with a move to Old Trafford in 2014, as per the report. However, the German joined Munich from arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund at the start of the 2016-17 season.
The German is one of the best defenders in the world and Mourinho wanted to sign a centre-back in the summer window (h/t Sun).
United have had their struggles this season and have made a lukewarm start to the Premier League campaign. The Red Devils were also knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Derby County on penalties.
The pressure on Mourinho is immense but Hummels could be the player who turns our defence around. Chris Smalling has been the best centre-back for us this season but he isn’t as good as the German.
It will be interesting to keep an eye on Mourinho’s position till the January window. Should he continue as the manager, we could see some changes in the playing staff at United.
